Technology and Teaching
I love my iphone. I cannot imagine my life without it, I cannot wait to use it in a classroom. I know that some teachers are going to be pretty strict on the other hand. Why limit the access to knowledge to just yourself or an awesome text book? I am planning on using an iPad or my iPhone as much as possible. After all, it is a matter of time till textbooks are converted to PDF and used on a Kindle or iPad. So my question to you MAT students out there is this: how much technology( if any) are you planning on using in the classroom? What kind of technologies? Or are you going to be the teacher that makes students use a stone tablet?

Stone tablet and abacus...sun dial to tell time too.
ReplyDeleteBTW I love my Droid more than you love your fanboy iPhone
ReplyDeleteThe Summarian tablets and ten commandments are my educational tools of choice
ReplyDeleteI'm also quite fond of the battering ram
ReplyDeleteI am not an MAT student...my MACL focus is on getting high school students to college, where technology is prevelent. Contemporary student text more than they talk on their Droid/iPhone. If you want to reach students and prepare them for the next level, you have to go where they are. Of course, I do not have to manage that technology in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have iPads for my students. There are so many programs available that can help students learn. I have used Proloquo with students who have communication difficulties. Its amazing the difference technology has made in their education.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, I will use technology. I think kids will have to prove some ability to function without it, just incase of a zombie apocalypse or something like that. Otherwise, if you can make the technology integrative, collaborative, and teenage drama free--Spark it up!
ReplyDeleteI hope to use as much as possible without it getting in the way of teaching. A distraction can come from anywhere so I think we need to watch how are students are doing with we give them. Oh by the way, I just bought a Kindle... When I get it will someone show me how to use it?
ReplyDeleteI think that technology is very useful in the classroom. I'm hoping that I will have the opportunity to use a Smartboard in my classroom. I think this is a valuable device that can help track your work in the class. These documents could also be uploaded to a blog for the class where students could reference back to the class notes on the subject covered to refresh their memories.
ReplyDeleteI too would love to have an iPad for classroom use. While I am not fully competent in the use of this product, I love my other "i" products. I think that making education relevant in this day requires the use of technology. Without out, as Randy noted, you really are existing in another realm.
ReplyDeleteRowland Hall requires all their kids to have laptops and I've heard the teachers complain that they're nothing but a distraction. So if you do have lots of techmology(Ali G) in your room, be sure to have a way to keep them on track with it or it could be like herding cats to get their attention.
ReplyDeleteI think being able to use ipads in the classroom is awesome. I think there needs to be a good way to monitor the work that kids are doing on them but that is something I cannot wait to use when I start teaching!
ReplyDeleteI hope to use technology to help students learn more about advances and easier techniques to achieve things. Personally I love taking my written notes its more personal and I learn better so I do want to balance that out for my students in a way that both advanced technology will be used but the art of writing wont be lost.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely a stone tablet! Actually I think that I will probably use a combination of methods. I think not using technology as a teaching aid in certain business education classes could be difficult.
ReplyDeleteHow do I post a presentation on my blog? Directions please.
