Webquest

Tips for Webquest

1- Give yourself plenty of time, this assignment makes you think and do your own research.

2- Be specific on what you want the students to look for. The internet has so much information that it can make life hard on your students.

3- Open ended questions are still awesome to use, makes the students read the whole article not just pick out specific info.

4- I put all the links in one document on word, all my questions on another document, than the answers on yet another. Made it really easy to piece the blog together and not have to worry about a giant document.

5- Find websites that are "user friendly" there are some websites out there that hard to navigate and maneuver.

6- Be prepared to get frustrated. Putting these together is not easy, I almost through my laptop out the window because I couldn't get the format right on word.

Basics of Marketing

Tips for PowerPoint
1- Transitions are easy to use, but sometimes they can get out of hand. Keep it simple. No one wants to hear clapping, an airplane sound, a horn honking , or shattering glass everytime you switch slides.

2- If your on a Mac, just throw a picture off the internet that you want on your desktop. You can just click and drag it into PowerPoint, no need to import in.

3- You can publish your PP on your blog through Google Docs. It gives you a embed code and URL you can use.

4- Be careful what pictures you use, Clipart shows up constantly but some pictures off the internet do not.

5- My first PowerPoint template did not transfer very well. Be careful if your that concerned about it.

6- if you want to change the template on only some of your slides, highlight those ones and change template. When the box that says " apply to all" comes up press "no" . It will add some flavor, you can do this with fonts, and colors too.

Tech and Teaching

VIdeo 1

Tips for videos
1- Give yourself plenty of time, editing takes time.

2- Use a template if at all possible. Makes life a lot easier.

3- Take more video than you think youll need. You cut out a bunch of rubbish.

4- Adding music from iTunes is pretty easy, just use the link in the bottom right corner( iMovie).

5-Use a script other wise you fumble over your words

6- Loading on YouTube form iMovie is a lot easier than if you convert it to Quick Time.

7- Dont delete any of your videos till you 100% sure you are done, otherwise you have to go re-shoot them( happned twice).

8- Slow down when speaking, it makes you sound more articulate.

Prezi

Tips for Prezi
1- Play around with the thing for a few minutes right after the tutorials. It makes it a lot easier once you actually start to build it.

2- Try not to use a laptop that has a sensitive touch pad. My Prezi was zooming in and out even when I was trying to make it hold still.

3- If your going to upload a PowerPoint make sure it is very bland. My computer froze a few times because the Prezi website could not handle how rich my PowerPoint was.

4- If you want to make it play on your blog ( like mine) make sure you make Prezi embed it, they do the dirty work for you.

5- Prezi gives you a link that you can put on your blog, make sure you have the privacy setting "public" so everyone can see it.

6- When you export your PowerPoint make sure you save it as a PDF. Its a lot easier than if you just export it as an image. I made this mistake and felt like an idiot.

Technology and Teaching

I love my iphone. I cannot imagine my life without it, I cannot wait to use it in a classroom. I know that some teachers are going to be pretty strict on the other hand.  Why limit the access to knowledge to just yourself or an awesome text book? I am planning on using an iPad or my iPhone as much as possible. After all, it is  a matter of time till textbooks are converted to PDF and used on a Kindle or iPad. So my question to you MAT students out there is this: how much technology( if any) are you planning on using in the classroom? What kind of technologies? Or are you going to be the teacher that makes students use a stone tablet?
